Step Events - no more than 8?
So, my so-called "game" seems to be turning into a dungeon romp, I think. As such, random step events are probably going to be used a great deal... but there are only 8 slots. I guess this means that I can set 8 different zones (levels) of random encounter chains, right?
Is there no way to do more than 8? (For example, I can set level 1, level 2, level 3, up to level 8, but then what about level 9? Also, if I use up all these for a dungeon, I can't set up random wilderness encounters or undersea encounters, for example.) |
Re: Step Events - no more than 8?
I'm not sure if i'm understanding wht you are saying about levels...but, you can have 8 step events per level.
There might be ways to seemingly boost that number, like using rest event chains for some of the combat (each tied to a zone). You should put in a request over at SourceForge for more than 8 step events. Not having loooked at the code, it seems like this would be fairly easy to increase. :) |
Re: Step Events - no more than 8?
IIRC, there are 8 different step events for up to 16 zones, and 16 rest zones. Why, I dunno. But, like Manikus said, you can do complex step event chains to expand on the possibilities. And they can overlap, as in you could set up a chain that happens in areas 2 & 9.
There are ways to expand on the step zones, but you have to (for example) track with a quest or other way of expanding the step zones. SilentThief |
Re: Step Events - no more than 8?
Ohhhh, 8 step events per LEVEL... That helps things. :D
Making chains that have dozens of possibilities is quite complex - there is no limit, right? Can I put 100 encounters into one chain? |
Re: Step Events - no more than 8?
ST: It's only 8 step events per level right now and only 16 zones per level. There is no differentiation in DC's eyes between 'rest' zones and other zones.
Uatu: Theoretically, the only limit is the space on your drive. :D The longest chain that I've done had 32 layers, and it worked just fine. :) |
Re: Step Events - no more than 8?
An interesting idea would be to use a loop for each step. Why? I haven;t figured out why, but the fact that you COULD do it is kinda nice :showoff:
Actually I do have a reason to do this, what if we could count our X,Y steps and have a spell "Mark" that sets up a placement marker of sorts on the map and then you cast "Recall" so you can teleport back to the marker at any time ;) SilentThief PS, still too much work for the payout, but still pushing the limits |
Re: Step Events - no more than 8?
Looks like my "dungeon crawl" game is theoretically okay :D
