hide in shadows, walk up behind somone, attack them, its as easy as that.

If you're a fighter/thief or fighter/cleric, only use weapons that thieves can use (ie no 2 handed swords or flails)

backstabbing makes perfect by using +2 or +3 daggers. there are some daggers in the game that enhances the stabbing. some post says you can do it with a quarter staff, i dont knw if it works... but i prefer using that in knocking somebody's coconut.

I've my bounty-hunter backstabbing with a +3 longsword. If the game goes along the traditional AD&D rules, backstabbing can be done with any weapon. The term 'stabbing' is used generically, hence backstabbing can be anything from a knife in the kidney to a stout bash upside the back of the noggin with a quarterstaff. The only requirement is that the thief be undetected.

Yes, a quarterstaff can be used, but it has to be one that a single-class thief may wield (in other words, no Staff of the Magi :( ). OTOH, the Staff of Striking becomes an awesome backstabbing weapon, as it will do a base 10-19 points of damage before any other bonuses are added in.

Yes, that should be so. But, Regis tried to backstab me with his mace, and backstab was always a failure. I think ToB was installed.

You can only backstab with a weapon a pure thief can use at level 1.
Meaning the Throne of Bhaal High-level ability "Use any item" doesn`t make it possible to backstab with, say, Carsomyr.
BUT, sometimes it lets you backstab based on the type of weapon, sometime based on the specific weapon.
So, some people will find themselves able to backstab with the Staff of the Magi, others will find that quite impossible.

so what would be the best type of weapon to use with backstabbing then? dont tell me its flail... it is used to pound head not stabbing . there must be something wrong with that stabbing with staff, i bet you can sneak at your enemy's back but he'll see you instantly once you've taken your staff out of your backpack.
