Windows Media Player Virus help

I went on MSN Messenger last week week to try and reach a friend. I usually never use it, but after I did the Windows Media Player popped up. I tried to close it but I can't. I've tried restarting but it still keeps coming up. I'm running my old Norton Anti-virus right now, but it's out of date and I'm not crazy about it anyway.
Does anyone know able this virus and how to best remove it?
I have run 2 other

Head to Trendmicro.com and run the house call on-line virus scan. That should help you out.

And get a current virus scanner... I use AVG from www.grisoft.com, and they have a free version.

I was just able to run Adware. It seems to have corrected it, but I will check out that site.
Thanks

..I couldn't even finish the last post due to WMP popping up all the time.

As an alternative to AVG, which tends to uncorrectly block newer programs, try Avast! if AVG gives you trouble.

http://www.avast.com/

Avast! is a superb virus scanner in my experience. And somewheres I heard it was one of two safest. The other being a paid virusscanner.
