Guide to local drug dealers

Yeah, I'm looking to score :P

Not really, and probably that term is totally passe and now you all know how deeply uncool I am :heee:

Actually I'm wondering about a weird thing I started noticing a year or two ago around the city. So, we have overhead powerlines, and occasionally there are shoes slung over the power line, like with the laces tied together so one shoe is dangling on either side? And I thought at the time, how odd. Then recently I heard an offhand comment on the radio that this is how drug dealers identify where they are.

Does anyone know if that's true? If so, is it just an Aussie thing or a worldwide thing? Me in my naivety thought it was like some people having a laugh or something, but maybe something a bit more sinister??

If it is, it's news to me. I thought they used mobile phones. *shrugs*

Weird. A few weeks ago I saw two separate power lines on a road with shoes hung on them. At the time I figured some poor sap just had a joke played on him, now I must wonder!

Drug dealers are awfully civilised these days, aren't they? :D

yeah I've heard the drug dealer theory, as in it marks their turf or advertises. Some say can also mark gang territory.

In these fredro starr lyrics he could be referring to either I guess:

n my hood it ain't no yellow brick road you hear the shots echo
Sneakers hanging from a telephone pole
In my ghetto there aint no rainbow or pots o gold
But there was love from the family when times were cold
...

johnny, the difference is that most things are legal in amsterdam, so they have no qualms about letting people know of them

If the shoes thing is true, we have a drug dealer who's been down my road for about 10 years.

There are a lot of things legal in Amsterdam, but hard drugs aren't among them. The police sometimes looks the other way, hoping to catch bigger fish, but you WILL get arrested when you have cocaine or other harddrugs in your possession, depending on how much you carry around on you. More than 3 grams will land you in jail, less than 3 grams is considered personal stash, and after you hand it over you're free to go. I'm not sure if these are official rules, but that's how they work.
