Gaining Mage spells ?
I am in chapter 1 of ID and have a thief d/c > mage and both are now at level 7. Is the only way of gaining mage spells for spell level 3 onwards to find them as the mage in kuldahar only sells level 1 and 2 spells. I note from my cleric that new spells are automatically added as she progresses through the levels.
Once again any help would be great. Thanks |
Re: Gaining Mage spells ?
Yes a mage only adds spells to his spellbook by scribing scrolls. As per 2nd ed DnD rules.
You will often find during the first half of the game (especially for single-class and dualled-into mages) that you have free spell slots in higher levels but no scrolls to scribe spells for such high level. |
Re: Gaining Mage spells ?
As you progress onward through the chapters, Orrick will sell higher level spells. There are also other merchants who sell scrolls.
The gold mine for medium level spells is the Severed Hand. |

Thanks for the replies, it's been a big help.

Re: Gaining Mage spells ?
I live by the motto:
Single Classed Mages Only waste pages (in their spellbooks) ;) You're best off combining two classes that don't need to be single classed into one multiclassed character, and a M/T fits right in. I personally find a F/M and a F/Tin my party more effective, but it's debatable. |
Re: Gaining Mage spells ?
Note: he was referring to a dc T --> M. It's efficient, although the timing of the nasty traps in the game makes it too tricky for my liking.
