The Chasers' War on APEC.

It seems two comedians from the cult ABC satire program The Chasers' War on Everything have landed themselves in deeper crap than usual after staging Osama Bin Laden's arrival at the Sydney APEC meeting.

Link.

I'd half wondered if the Chasers crew were going to pull some kind of an APEC stunt, but i never guessed at how far they'd be willing to take it. Lots of red faces on both sides methinks.

BTW, any Sydneysiders reading this? Just how bad is it over there anyway?

For those that are not up with the news ...

"Osama bin laden came within 50 metres of GW Bush hotel yesterday evening."

These notorious TV show pranksters, already famous for embarressing Hilary Clinton and her minders last year, decided to take on the 170 million dollar security cordon around 21 of the world leaders for the APEC meeting in Sydney. Using 3 black limo's flying the Canadian flag and escorted by motorcycles the team where waived through several security checkpoints and only got caught when they realised they had breached further than they intended and had already turned round to leave. One of the comedians (dressed as Obama) jumped out of the limo much to the suprise of the security detail around Bush's hotel :d

The security crackdown in Sydney is a joke Sever. It is all just show, and an exercise in the crushing of basic freedoms and rights. Central Sydney is in lockdown (for normal people) The security itself is a disgrace not worthy of name.

More later Sever but after Bush has left I will gladly post an easy way to have assassinated the president. Obviously I will keep the information to myself for the time being but being on the inside of the security system the friggen huge holes in security around him are so easy to see. I'm torn between pointing them out for his protection on one hand but putting him at risk through other people with ill intent also reading the info on the other hand. Though like near everyone I intensly dislike Bush and all he stands for I do however respect his position and the people of the USA.

Watch this space :heee:

From the Sydney Morning Herald

It took a comedian in an Osama bin Laden outfit to rouse Sydney's APEC security monster into action after the convoy assembled by the ABC TV program passed two police checkpoints to pierce the sniper-ridden "ring of steel".

The much-vaunted protection for the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit was peeled away with embarrassing ease yesterday by satirists armed with hire cars, Canadian flags and a colour printer.

Eleven people were charged last night with breaching APEC security zones after the fake motorcade with bonnet-mounted flags sailed past the checkpoints to drive within metres of the InterContinental hotel, where the US President, George Bush, is staying.

And that is why I've left Sydney for the past 3 days. I can't escape the feeling that something is going to go down with police digital scanners, bullet proof vests & those 3 missile/grenade launchers going missing all those months ago.

So many have done the same thing as you TDC. btw I think it was 12 missile launchers that where stolen from the army for a Muslim buyer and only 3 have been recovered :(

Ahh my mistake. The big worry for me is the digital police scanners. You used to be able to pick up the police channles from any old scanner but then they changed to a digital signal. So now someone can hear what the police are doing.

Based on what happened, nobody is hearing much.
