World-renowned Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti dies at 71

Sad News indeed:

Luciano Pavarotti, one of the world's great tenors and a man known for his ability to hold a high C for a period of time that seemed beyond human capability, will sing no more.

Pavarotti died early Thursday morning in his hometown of Modena, Italy, of complications of pancreatic cancer. He was 71.

He had been battling the disease since July 2006, when he cancelled a farewell concert tour on the advice of doctors.

One of the world's most recognized opera singers, Pavarotti is often credited with popularizing opera.

"For me, music making is the most joyful activity possible, the most perfect expression of any emotion," he once said.

His career mixed concert appearances featuring both modern popular songs and the opera classics. As a member of the Three Tenors, with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, he packed arenas.

I just heard this on the news. 71 is not an age to die at.

RIP, Luciano.

Not being funny but... yes it is. The world average is 67, so he's above that. And given his general health, and the fact he weighed about 280lbs when he died - well, let's just say it's not a huge shock.

Still, all that aside, he was a great man, a huge talent, and he will be missed.

Yea, my grandpa died at 67. Anyway, you can call me an uncultured barbarian, but I don't think I've heard Pavarotti.

Well, you probably heard him one way or another, but it's not really that weird if you didn't recognize him, you gotta be familiar with classic and opera. He had quite a unique voice, but if you let me choose out of 5 tenors which voice is Pavarotti's, i guess i wouldn't know the answer either, all tenors sound the same to me.

On the plus side, should you be interested in his music, you'll probably find most of it in the bargainbins these days. :D
