What kinda attack can I expect from the Umar Hills quest...
I mean what kinda attack does a shadow, shadow fiend, greater etc have... The reason for me asking is that when going along a party it is just hack´n slash but when soloing I need to stop and think about my progress...since only one of the critters need to imobilize me to kill me...! Any equipment that´ll be good for this quest? |
Well I played a solo barbarian and he was very high level. But I do not rember anything to hard.
If I rember you are playing a thief. So I would say that you should not have to much of a hard time. The shawdows are the easy part. And as Equipment needed for a solo chacter anything that protects from mind affects. The shield of harmony is a very useful item Spoiler below ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' There is a lich there and some mummies. And do not forget the dragon. Well maybe you might have some trouble. What level you at now? [ 09-24-2002, 05:18 PM: Message edited by: Mack_Attack ] |

Mind control stuff? WHAT Mind control stuff? I don't remember a need for Free Action, either. And by the way, Dundee, the Level Drain wears off on its own. (The only situation in the whole game where you don't need Restoration, as I recall.) |
Okay SixOfSpades...
I got attacked by a greater shadow Fiend...boom bang and I was held to the ground....couldn´t move or do anything....meanwhile a few more shadows entered and started picking around my gutts to find my heart...DEAD! Therefore I´m looking for something to kill the effect of hold...ring of free action!!! |
Spoilers
~ ~ ~ ~ The highest group of Undead batches is that of a Lich, a Greater Mummy( I HATE this creature), a Mummy, a Skeleton Warrior, a Skeleton Warrior Archer and a Bone Golem. Have fun. ;) The Level-Drain from the Wraiths are permanent if I recall correctly. Ring of Free Action is obtained in Chapter 4, in Bodhi's Gauntlet. An alternative is the Arbane +2 Short Sword. Minor spoilers:
. . . . . . . Ahh, lets see. Killing the Shade Lord is probably the easiest part of the quest. Ordinary shadows and shadow fiends can drain strength from you. They don't drain that much so they are only really dangerous if you have low strength or are being mobbed by them. Unless they come in hordes they are not that much a threat. As you are probably expecting you will met lots of these critters. Shade Wolves, a local specialty these wolves are immune to normal weapons but have little else, combat wise, to distinguish themselves from ordinary wolves. Skeleton Warriors. These nasties seem to be a staple at any crypt setting in BG2. They are only vulnerable to magical weapons and tend to shrug off spells cast at them. They pack a mean punch too usually wielding magical two-handed swords. Bone golems are much like skeleton warriors, only much worse! They take it a step further by being totally immune to spells and the fact that they are not technically undead (they are magical automatons made of bones, not animated corpses) renders anti-undead measures powerless. They are a bit of a sight to behold though. Few monsters looks as grotesque as them. A lot of people say there's a lich about in the temple ruins. I haven't encountered him, but maybe that has something to do with my skill settings. You might want to leave a space open in your party as you will be able to rescue a hero who might join your party. My picninc-list for the Umar Hills quest: Magical weapons, they need not be very powerful, just magical. A haste spell/scroll/potion/item. Strength spells/scrolls/potions/items (only necessary if you have physically weak party members). Magical arrows if you want to make the new NPC tag along. The extended picnic list, if you want to kill all and everything: The above plus: Anti spell protections (Spell Thrust, Pierce Magic, etc.). Lower Resistance spells/scrolls. Lots of summons (spells/items/whatever). Abilities to resist level drain (babarian/berzerker rage, Amulet of Power, Negative Energy Protection). A slightly bigger spoiler: . . . . . . . . . . . . . Just when you find the entrance to the old temple a fight will ensue that might prove very difficult for a newbie. The stained glass window is the key. One way to cut it is to send your strongest character alone and hasted to do it. Be sure to keep moving all the time and never allow yourself to be surrounded. A HUGE spoiler: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . You will also meet a very large creature of reptilian nature. You don't need to fight him, but the reward for doing so is very big. If you chose to ignore him at first you can always go back later when you have gained some more levels and finish him off. |
Thanx for the advice...I´ve completed this quest a cpuple of dozen times with a party but never solo...like now!
at what lvl does my high lvl abilities kick in...use any item might prove good to my thief |
