Cooke's lawyer, Adrian Higgins, said his client admitted both offenses and had attacked the snake because he knew his girlfriend loved it. He said Cooke, from the border village of Keady, had been consuming alcoholic drinks for several hours before the attack.

But he's an Irish bricklayer, he'd have to be drinking for several days to become intoxicated.

I know a girl whose friend bit off the head of her snake during an argument. She kept it in a box. I think in reply, she killed his spider...

I wonder how big this snake was...

Ah, they're using the Mel Gibson the defense....it wasn't me that did it, it was the alcohol. :D

According to the "Reptile Hosue":
"Royal pythons - known as ball pythons in the USA because of their ability to curl up into a ball when threatened - come from grasslands and forest clearings in west and central Africa, where they spend much of their lives in underground burrows. Active mainly by night, these snakes eat 'jumping mice' (gerbils) in the wild, and can be fussy eaters in captivity.
