What does it mean when it says "out of hand"?
The icon isn't red, so I can use it, right?
But it won't let me. I don't get it.

Dundee Slaytern 09-21-2002 02:11 AM

I am not quite following you, a bit more details please?

Crowley Wizard 09-21-2002 02:19 AM

Ok.
In my inventory I have a weapon, its not shaded red.
Shaded red means you can't use it.

But when I try to put the weapon up into the weapons slot to use it, a message comes saying, out of hand. and the weapon won't go.

For instance my bard specializes with a bow, but it won't let me use one.
Although the icon isnt red.

Okay, maybe I will just list some rules with regards to equipping weapons and see whether any of them applies to you.

 1. When you have a weapon in your off-hand, you may not equip a two-handed weapon in your main-hand.
 2. You may not dualwield a ranged weapon and a melee weapon at the same time, even if the ranged weapon has melee capabilities.
 3. You may not equip two launchers (bows and crossbows for example) of the same type at any one time.
 4. If you have Melf's Minute Meteors casted, or you have shapeshifted, you may not equip or remove anything from your weapon slots.
There are more, but I think these are the more relevant ones. In case this still does not help, what is your Bard kit, and what weapon are you trying to equip on him/her?

Crowley Wizard 09-21-2002 02:38 AM

Its just a straight bard, but I have the problem with all the characters.

I will find a weapon, pick it up, now its in my inventory, its not shaded red.
I empty all my weapons slots and try to put the weapon there, all by itself, still it says out of hand.
It wont allow my bard to use a bow.
It lets me put arrows in the arrow slots, and it let me add proficiency in bows, yet I cannot use a bow even if the bow is my only possession.

Actually, I think it says, cannot use item, out of hand, or something.
I figured y'all would know what I was talking about.
perhaps I need to go back and dink with it some more.
Or is it a bug or something?

Have you fully patched your game? You may find the links to the patches in the Welcome Thread. If so, WinZip the save game folder and e-mail it to me and I will see what is going on.

Crowley Wizard 09-21-2002 02:58 AM

That's funny.
Hey, I read the newbies please read this first post a few days ago.

You assume I am computer literate.
I have no idea how to winzip stuff.

I did manage to download and install the patch and bug fix.
This is the only game I've played besides diablo.
And it is much much more complicated than diablo.
That is why I am here asking stupid questions.

Next time I will make sure I write down my problems before trying to explain them.
Sorry for that.

Thanks for being here for me though, I appreciate it.

Have you unequipped any Shield you were using ??
On the issue of bows, I think that Bards can only use shortbows; and not longbows.

Double click the icon on your desktop labeled "My Computer"
Double Click the icon who`s label ends in [C:]
Scroll down until you find an icon labelled "Program Files"- double click it.
Find the icon with label BlackIsle , double click it.
Double click the icon above BGII-SOA.
Find the icon labeled Save , double click it.
Now find the icon who`s label begins with the name of your save game. Click it once with the opposite mouse button to what you usually use.
On the menu that pops up, click "Add to Zip"
Click OK at all prompts that come up.
Congratulations, you`ve winzipped a file
Now, in that folder you were in there will be a new file, with the icon of a filing cabinette in a clamp. That is the zipped file.

Do you know how to send an attachment via email ?? Send the new file (the filing cabinette in a clamp) as an attachment

I will assume that you have downloaded WinZip already. If you have not, click on the link to download it.

After you have confirmed that you have WinZip, go to the following directory,

C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\save

and right-click on the appropriate save game folder. Under the options, choose WinZip followed by Add to 000000000-Title.zip. Now go to your e-mail account, upload the zip file as an attachment and e-mail it to me.
