How would I find out if I did this when I was 18? I was looking at a job whose disqualifiers for employment includes this wording:
Failure to register with the Selective Service System (for males only) |
Think back many years ago.... when I graduated, I remember getting reminders to register.
That being said, do they ask you if you did or not? If so, then answer truthfully. If not, then don't answer... and tell them you thought you did, if they ask, but it's been so long... ;) Unless, of course, you decided not to register as some form of protest... |
Well, you could try calling the Selective Service registration information line at 1-847-688-6888.
A few other things: The requirement to register was only started in 1980. Because of this if you were born before 1959 then you don't need to register. If you were supposed to register and didn't then you should be concerned about the fact you've commited a felony that is punishable by up to 5 years in jail and a pretty massive fine. |

I didn't register, but I served, so I guess I didn't have to.

"If you failed to register with Selective Service, Section 12(g) of the Military Selective Service Act allows non-registrants to receive benefits under specific conditions. As a veteran, you satisfy those conditions with your DD Form 214 showing the dates of your military service, which will serve as evidence that your failure to register was not knowing and willful. Therefore, men who served on full-time active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces should not be denied student financial aid, loans, or grants; vocational training under W.I.A.; government employment; and security clearances, on the basis of their failure to register with Selective Service. As long as you have proof of your active duty military service, such as your DD 214, your subsequent failure to register should not be a bar to any benefits or programs, contingent upon registration compliance, for which you are otherwise qualified." |
That depends on how long you serve. If you leave the military before the cutoff age (26?) then you are suppsed to register.

At that site, you can see if you are registered. I did-- told me the date I did it too! crazy..
Date of Registration: 11/29/1990 God.. If I could go back to that time and get out of Florida and back to Louisville. Anyone have a bloody time machine I can borrow for a few mins? No? crap.... :D |
it's illegal for any male in the united states over the age of 18 to not be registered for the selective service. IF you're not signed up you really should ASAP.
|
I had to register at age 22, after I my term in the Marines (joined at 17), got a letter in mail. Kinda surprised me but I did it.
