Does anyone use a PC gamepad in preference of a keyboard/mouse or other setup whilst PC gaming? With TV-out a possibilty in my new apartment, i'm curious about gamepads for on-the-couch PC gaming. What gamepads and/or software worked (or didn't) for you?

I have a decent gamepad, but have only ever used it for one game and that was Lego star wars
I find they are cool, but there arent many games out there I would prefer to use them for. I did use one for a while though while playing the various GTA games, but in the end prefered a joystick |
I have Wingman RumblePad. I use it to play those old NES/SNES games. The rumble thing is neat for games that support it.

You can always boost cable from your neighbors. Its one of the perks of apartment living.

I use a P880 dual analog gamepad. Windows XP automatically dettected it with no drivers or anything needed. It is great for console ports to PC. I played Marvel Ultimate Alliance on it, Fable, some of the Marvel Vs. Capcom games and one or two others I can't think of. There are also programs you can DL that allow use of a gamepad for games that don't support them. I tried it once with NWN's, lol.

The Ideazon z-board rocks.
Only downside is need to purchase additional kits for each game you play. Great if you play one game frequently (such as BF2), though. |
Z-Boards are way to flimsy. I had one and chucked it prefering the Logitech G15.
Back to game pads. I'm thinking about getting one for Driving games like Need for speed as I perfer to play those types of games on a console so I might try a game pad and see how it goes. |
Get the Xbox 360 controller for the PC. It's made for the PC, and even has an attachment for the XBOX 360.
Good thing is, it's by Microsoft, so it's gonna have good drivers, and most PC Games will support it. It always detects instantly in a game with Gamepad support, and has TONS of buttons, and is shaped well. I still don't use gamepads much.. mainly for racing games.. |
NFS games are indeed why i had gamepads in mind. Non driving games aren't an issue. Though i'm pretty handy with a keyboard, i find that extended play really makes the knuckles piss. That and my console loving friends suck at using a keyboard which means they never play long enough to admit that PCs are better. :D It's part of my plan.
The XBOX controller sounds like a worthy choice. Thanks guys. |
