I just spent 2 hours with my internet provider trying to figure out why I couldn't get into my email, only to find out it was due to AVG! I had to completlty remove it from mine and my wife's PC!

I tried AVG once, and it was a bad trip. I'll stick to Avast. AVG was not my friend.

Sorry that you were made to suffer.

depends on the user and the user needs I guess. it has worked for me great since I first got it. been telling my customers about it and Avast. I want to learn how to use HijackThis, though.

Try Ewido aka AVG Anti Spyware, it is one of the best freewarte programs I've used. Catches everything (virii, trojans, loggers, spyware, malware) and cleans it fine too. Works atop other virus programs also.

What is AVG?

Lucern 12-07-2006 03:00 AM

It's a free, and generally effective, anti-virus put out by Grisoft. I use AVG and Avast simultaneously. They tend to find different things, and they also have different levels of security. You most likely got your settings screwed up somehow Variol.

I think it may have happened when it asked meto allow or deny some program accessing the internet. I think when I said deny, it messed everything up. It's really stupid feature to have in there.
It may have been something else though.

Maybe this land lubber will try Avast! Is it also free?

My Norton never gave me any trouble, it was just slow. That's why I tried some of these other free programs. I guess you get what you pay for.

I feel oh so very tempted to use the old computer support line about problems, keyboards and chairs, but I shall refrain.
I have no idea what you are talking about. AVG asking you if you want to allow some program to access the network? Blocking a program? Never heard of that one. Methinks your Firewall went loony.
And Avast! is good, yes. Almost as good as AVG performance-wise, but with a more friendly interface. Take that for what you will.

I've never had trouble with AVG...

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 12-07-2006 09:03 AM

Geez, I just put ij Avast and the same thing happened! I couldn't access my email again. I removed it and now it's fine. Any ideas what's going on here?
