Now I am lvl26 mage, and the last time I leveled I didn't get any more spells. Now I have 6 slots of spells of each level, and no futher advancement is occuring (last 2-3 levels only gave me 8-9 level spells), I am stick to the numbers. Is it a bug, and is there a bugfix for that? I really need those extra spells, otherwise the reason of doing all the quests vanishes - I level, but nothing changes :(

There is an XP cap in SOA of 2.95 million XP: You stop gaining Xp at that point, unless you install a cap remover; as a Mage, the XP cap stops you just short of level 9 spells.

Sorry for an offence, but...
Does number 26 tell you anything? Now I have nearly 5,5 million XP (or even 6), and of course I removed that cap! I hit it even before I got my Staff Of Magi ;) The trouble is, once again, that at lvl 26 I stop recieving spells, while STILL leveling up. I have all 6 in all the spells, from 1st level to 9th. Can't I get more? |
Probably something to do with the way that XP cap removers work: They don`t remove the cap as such, they simply raise it. Also, I don`t think you can get a base of more than 5 memorisations per spell level; you can only get more through special items (Ring of Wizardry, Ring or Acuity, Amulet of Metaspell Influence, etc).
Check the documentation with the cap remover you used; it should give you the answer |
I installed some spell tables, which allowed me "greater progression". Now reading the documentation I got that at lvl 25 mages fully max out, and they can not have more spell slots without code recompilation etc... Lies! A day before I got AD&D ruleset, found tha table and modified the spell slot numbers accordingly with the ShadowKeeper, and nothing did crash or bug. Wonder if someone came up with the same problem before, and wrote a patch that allows normal/legal progression without that cheesy ShadowKeeper.

6 spell slots per spell level? Is this your base? If so, are you using a Specialist Mage?
Generalist Mages can only get a maximum of 5 spell slots per spell level, while Specialist Mages can only get a maximum of 6 spell slots per spell level. Note that this is referring to the base number and can only be enhanced through equipment. Anything more than that is cheating. ADD] I should explain the lvl 25 spell progression concept too. In BG2, the rate at which Mages gain their spell slots was slowed down to the point that you needed a lvl 35 Mage in order to gain all your spell slots. As Mages can only reach lvl 31 at most even with ToB installed, some people felt this was unfair and modified the spell slot progression to normal PnP rules. All the lvl 25 patch does is to hasten the rate at which you gain your spell slots. It DOES NOT give you more spell slots. [ 09-17-2002, 07:54 AM: Message edited by: Dundee Slaytern ] |
OK, sorry, I was mistaken - 5 slots, 6 in 6,7,8 levels due to the ring of wizardry ;)
And that means that I will not be able to get futher spell slots in any legal way, short of buying ToB? Nasty, nasty.... Heh, then I should hit all the local stores in search for ToB. And will ToB give me more spell slots in level 1-9 spells, or it will simply add lvl10 spells? I am not satisfied with 6 Horrid Wiltings, I want more ;) |
Minor ToB Spoiler
~ ~ ~ ~ How did you get 6 ADHWs? The Ring of Wizardry grants an additional spell slot to each level for level 5/6/7 spells. There is no equipment in SoA that grants an additional spell slot to level eight spells. You can only gain more level eight spell slots if you have ToB installed( one from equipment, and one from a HLA). And at the risk of repeating myself, you cannot gain any more spell slots already save through equipment and HLAs from ToB( since you have used the level 25 spell progression patch, and you are level 26). You have reached the meximum base number of spell slots already, which is 5 spell slots per spell level. Note that ToB HLAs can only grant you one additional spell slot to each level for level 6/7/8 spells. HLAs also include level 10 spells of course, which share the same spell slots as level 9 spells. |
OK, Dundee, again mistaken I was, but anyway it is a pity that no more progression is possible... Guess I should find ToB and use some comets on gibberlings, because any other way the game will become less interesting. I LOVED levelling and getting additional spell slots..

If I understand well then you have installed "Level 50 rules". If so then check the .2DA files you have installed. These files are plain text files and can be read (and modified! :D ) by means of any text editor. Edit the mxsplwiz.2da file and set the limits according to your wishing. The effect of the modifications will appear next time you will level up.
