I'm doing an assignment for my course in social issues, and want to get the general idea of the IW community whether prostitution should be legilised or illegal.

Here are some good points:

The government could tax and regulate it like other service industries.

Companies who provide prostitution as a service would be forced (by the government) to test prostitutes for STD's, thereby stopping the spread of needless deadly diseases.

Companies who provide prostitution as a service would be forced (by the government) to keep prostitutes safe so their clients did not hurt them.

Ugly people get laid.

Well the other side to the prostitution debate is that a 40 year old man having sex with 14 - 18 year old girls with no protection and the spread of STD's, 'thinking' it's a great way to make money from the government by having a child and possibly ending in abortion.

Yes. It's easier to regulate things if they're legal. It was way easier to get pot at my high school (illegal) than to get cigarettes (legal.) It's gonna be there anyway. Get the government some money out of it, and have better control over it.

Like most things, the fact that it may be illegal doesn't stop people from doing it. Not sure how this changes things for the ugly factor though. Last time i checked, beer was still legal.

well if it was legal and regulated, then how would 14 year-olds get involved? They wouldn't. And prositution is least of the reasons why teenagers have kids, lol

also, would lessen the chances of rape if people can have an outlet for sexual urges they cant control (for a price of course)
