And my wife met them today! She was speaking to a client today who named her boy Drizzt, and when my wife recognized the name, she about flipped!

Now...the mother said that the kid's name is pronounced "Driz-ZEET", but I know that is a common error. I did a quick google of it and found this:

"Drisst" - The correct pronunciation. It is confirmed in an interview with Salvatore published in DRAGON Magazine (the TSR house mag) around the time The Legacy came out. Also, this is the way it appears in the Forgotten Realms boxed set.

So, should my wife tell this mother that she is wrong?

BTW...I have always pronounced it Driz-it.

If they say it's pronounced "Driz-ZEET", then let it be. Part of my name is pronounced "C" but people almost always pronounce it "Zee" or "Zzz" when we first meet. I can't really blame them, since the pronounciation of my name is different from the norm( even in my native language).

Lewis Black has a good routine (adult language!!) about unusual names. It's an audio clip, about 4 minutes long. The first 1/2 is about names, but it's all funny.

That's creepy. It's like me naming my kid Ziroc or something.

I read somewhere, either in FR material or in one of the books, author prologues and such, that the correct pronunciation is Dritst. That Drizzit is wrong is written in the premise to Dark Elf Trilogy.

Dritst. That's the way I know it too. I can't remember which book it is, but there's one where 2 guards see him and call him "the Drizzit". It's funny.

Personally, I say spell the name the way it sounds, or how people know it. I have a number of customers with stupid spellings of their name. Like Maria. She pronounces it Mariah. Well, just put the "h" on there, it's not going to drain your printer of ink or anything!
