..Advice welcomed. The computer that recently had it BIOS (and therefore, motherboard) fried, is at it again. Since the new motherboard has been in, the mouse has been an absolute biatch of a thing to operate. My sister recently purchased a new logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo which worked fine for a few days. Since then, it's developed a problem whereby the computer won't boot past the first stage (motherboard logo). Once this happens, the only way to get it to boot properly is to turn it off at the wall, remove the wireless peripherals and reinstall the painfully hard to use mouse and keyboard. Changing from wireless to standard (or back) while the computer is running results in no performance. Using the computer's reset or shutdown operation (including the 4 seconds on button routine) results in the same boot freeze regardless of what keyboard and mouse is plugged in on powerup. Once it freezes, killing power to the supply is the only thing that'll work.

It sounds like possible a BIOS issue with your new hardware. Does it work fine with an old school wired keyboard/mouse combo?

According to the frozen startup screen, it's an Asus A7S8X-MX motherboard. Apart from the Logitech mouse/keyboard, it's the only hardware that's new to the system. Other stuff: Athlon 1800, Radeon 9200, Maxtor 4D040H2 Hard disk, 1 Gig RAM.

It doesn't work on startup with old school wired mouse and keyboard. Not without tripping the power first. Also, it will boot normally using the logitech mouse/keyboard (after turning mains power off) but they won't function at all. I'm starting to think that it's not a keyboard/mouse related problem after all...

It could be your power supply. When they start going all kinds of issues are known to happen. What make and model is your psu and how old is it?

Make and model? I'd have to take the cover off for that and, after the day i've had, i really can't be assed. :D I know that it's only been in there for 18 months or so after the last psu died and i also know that it wasn't a new unit. I'm nearing the end of my patience with this old rig. A new power supply followed by a complete format (i've given up on recovering the lost stuff when the other mboard died..) sounds like the best option to me.
