I was reading an article the other day about how easy it is for kids to copy whole essays from the internet and the interesting things schools are doing to combat it. The percentage of students who they know are cheating were quite high, and of course there must be more that are getting away with it!

So I was wondering if any IWers have cheated in their school\uni days, or even for work maybe. Tell us all your sordid past ;) Why did you cheat? Did you get caught? What happened if you did get caught?

I've cheated countless times, both in school and uni. I've done just about everything; copying someone's essay, writing notes on my hand, stuffing a piece of paper in my pocket then going to the bathroom during the exam and reading it, peeking over someone else's shoulder in a test... too much to list. Probably the worst thing I ever did was copy an entire Rowan Atkinson script word for word, when given the assignment of writing a comedy sketch/play. I've never once been caught

I had to give in an essay for European Studies. No, in fact, it was more than that, it was my end-of-year coursework, and it would determine my grade. And I simply made the whole thing up. Sat down one lunchtime, wrote a load of make-believe nonsense on Swiss and German border protocols/customs laws, and handed it in. The fools didn't bother to check.

Well I've only cheated once, and it wasn't really that bad because I think everyone did it and the thing was only worth 2.5% so I didn't feel too badly. It was a computer thing for a maths course I did at uni and I asked a friend to help me and he just gave me his stuff and put my name on it for me so I handed it in. But that's pretty much it.

LOL my brother used to tutor a subject at uni a couple of years ago, and he was marking assignments and he came across two where the people had cleary just copied off eeach other. He might not have noticed except they both had a line down the margin which was completely unexpected as you don't normally draw in a margin if you're printing something out. When he looked further their work was identical. The moral of the story is, at least reformat so it's not so obvious! :D

I never cheated, but my sophomore year my buddy made us fake report cards to cover our poor grades and truancy.

My conscience couldn't take my parent's continuous glowing admiration for my "good grades" and I confessed.

I once shoved some srunched up notes into my pencil case in a test, but that's pretty much it. :D

I remember, a few years ago, someone sitting a few rows in front of me had actually written notes all up his arms, and used his sleeves to conceal them.

I've cheated only a few times during my high school, and once at an university exam (Molecular Biology 1). For me it was always written 'notes' hidden somewhwre, usually in my pencilcase (lots of pockets there), or things written in pencil on the desk (yeah, it works). Never got caught, or even risked.

But I wonder how many of you can actually boast to have cheated in an oral test... I did. Physics, 4th year of high school. I was caught unprepared, and didn't even know what the test would be about... But I managed to get the answers from my deskmate who was sitting in the back of the room.
A- :D
