Ok, this is just a poll on which book I should buy:

I am a great fan of David Gemmell. His books are astounding. I have never bothered to read David Eddings since I find his books rather childish. Therefore I may not be the best hudge of which book you should purchase. On the other hand I don´t think Stormrider excels as Gemmell´s other books. It is unfortunately a step down in my opinion, whereas the first book (Ravenheart) is as good as his earlier works. I regret to say Stormrider left me, in some degree, disappointed. Of course, if you have read Ravenheart, there is no reason not to read the sequel.

Edit: The mrs wanted me to tell you that she didn´t write this. Stephen. :D

Can't vote there, as I have only read little from both authors. From what I've seen, Gemmel writes fast-paced, full of action stories but is lacking somewhat in depth, while Eddings' tales are set in a well-developed world, but the storyline is a common one in fantasy worlds, and the telling is slightly on the childish side. However, looking at the books you are considering purchasing, you know you like both authors' works. In which case I would say it doesn't matter which one you buy as the other two will follow soon enough.

Best books -

Gemmell: Druss the Legend
Eddings: Belgareth the Sorceror

These books are both amazing, and I will read either quite happily. I know it's not quite a decisive 'he is better than him', but at least it's honest.

I like both authors but I read more Eddings because the books are cheaper & come in a standard paperback size.

Eddings for readability, I agree the storyline and telling is childish or uncomplex but the humour is sensational and its a classic all round series
