D*Ranged 09-13-2002 01:41 AM

Since there shall be no *best* kits in the world of BG2, this poll shall be about the peoples' chooice for kits in each class.

Currently...(I'll actively participate)

Fighter: Berserker (Easy to use)
Ranger: (Toss up between Archer/Stalker)
Paladin: Undead Hunter (Some might argue on effectiveness but imho they are easiest of all paladins to use)
Cleric: Priest of Lathander
Druid: (Toss up between totemic druid/Avenger)
Thief: Swashbuckler (Just like them, never been a love of backstab)
Bard: Blade (I seem to be a sort of guy 4 frontliners)
Mage: None in particular
Barbarian: I like them more than berserkers
Monk: Never tried it
Sorcerer: Slower in learning spells but hey, U choose ur own spells! COOL!)

Dundee Slaytern 09-13-2002 02:25 AM

I will just cover pureclassed kits, no time to go through all the dualclassed and multiclassed combinations.

Fighter: "Grog SMASH! Grog KILL! RAAAA!"
Berserker: "RAAAA!!!! RAAAA!!!!" *froths at mouth*
Kensai: "I slice and dice with no equal, but I cannot handle too much punishment."
Wizard Slayer: "Nobody loves me, :( even though I am the best unit against Mages. So I can't use the Ring of Gaxx, boohoo."

Barbarian: "RAAAA!!!! RAAAA!!!!" *beats on chest with a heavy axe*

Monk: "Hi-ya! Huoooo... YAH!" *poses in various martial stances*

Cleric: "Got cure?"
Cleric of Lathander: "Awwww... you poor thing, here, let me help you."
Cleric of Talos: "Repent or die!"
Cleric of Helm: "Neutrality is key."

Druid: "Nature pretty!"
Avenger: "I am the closest you will get to a Druid/Mage."
Shapeshifter: "I do not suck! Really! I don't! Learn to use me properly, please!"
Totemic Druid: "I got a buttload of summoning spells, but I am crimped by the summoning limit. Boooo... ..."

Ranger: "Rangers and Ha- damn... I am getting dumb."
Archer: "I am the Prince of Thieves! Or not."
Beastmaster: "The next guy that says I suck gets the Staff of Rynn +4 stuck up his a**... ..."
Stalker: "Not all Rangers fight honourably. ;) "

Paladin: "I pale in comparison to my kits."
Undead Hunter: "Bite me! Bite me! HAHAHAHA!"
Cavalier: "Give me the Amulet of Power, and I am an Undead Hunter on steriods."
Inquisitor: "Spell Protections? What spell protections?" *slice, slice*

Thief: "Your money or your life."
Bounty Hunter: "Feel the pain in your a**."
Swashbuckler: "Feel the pain in your chest."
Assassin: "Feel the pain in your back."

Bard: "And I know that my heart will go on and on... ..."
Jester: "This is the song that never ends!"
Skald: "And here we are, the princes of the universe!"
Blade: "Er... eh... ah screw this. I don't sing." *slices his way through the enemy*

Mage: "I know all."
Diviner: "I ain't a pushover, I think."
Abjurator: "I do not only cast protection spells."
Invoker: "Destruction is my game."
Enchanter: "Do I look pretty? Do you feel confused?"
Necromancer: "Illusions are for pansies."
Conjurer: "I do not need to see you to kill you."
Transmuter: "The best defense is a pure offense."
Illusionist: "I don't deal with death."

Sorcerer: "Their men shall die, their wifes shall weep, while the children huddle under their beds."

The Blade.

You haven't tried a monk yet? Ooooooo, when in the upper levels (15 and up)they're a force to be reckoned with. +3 fists, 70%+ MR, hide in shadows, 3-4 attacks per round, -7 AC,... you get the idea. At level 40, my monk has +4 fists, 93% MR, 4 attacks per round, -8 THAC0 with fists, AC of -10, and 150 HP - before any enhancing equipment. Add in the added abilities from ToB like Greater Whirlwind attack, you can take on Firkraag alone and have him beat in 2 rounds.
Essentially, they are practically *unstoppable*

IMHO these are the best kits for each class:

Fighter: Beserker (A million immunities with enrage)
Ranger: Plain Ranger (I'm not much of an archery/backstabbiing person.)
Paladin: Cavalier ( Ridiculous Immunites and resistances)
Cleric: Cleric of Lathander (I like Priest of Talos but the Lathander one is more powerful).
Druid: Totemic Druid (Don't like shapeshifting)
Swashbuckler: (CRAZY bonuses, I mean honestly, my swashbuckler had -3 AC without any armor).
Bard: Blade with Tob, Skald otherwise.
Mage: Necromancer (Illusions are for wusses).

(Then again I'd prefer a barbarian to these any day).

And people call the kensai a powergamers kit. Sheesh. Never did like monks very much, in any game. The whole concept of beating on armored warriors and dragons with bare hands and feet just seems beyond ridiculous to me.

For me it's always been straight rangers, fighters/mages, fighter/thieves, and since BG2 kensais

U r gonna get ur ass whooped. People learning martial arts concentrates on speed, not brutal fighting like a zealot.

Dundee Slaytern 09-14-2002 01:32 AM

From conversations with people who actually know martial arts, they would rather run away from a guy decked out in armour. Ever tried punching a Full Plate Mail before? Try it sometime... ...

Oh... and you will be surprised how light Full Plate Mail can be. People do backflips in them for crying out loud.
