Do you believe that the death penalty should be sought in the sniper case?

I feel killing them is a really cheep easy way out of life. They should be locked up for life, with no way out except in a pine box. No parole, and no privileges so they can suffer and live a miserable existence. That should give them lots of time to think about what they have done.

No. Why? 1) There have been way too many cases where the wrong person was executed. 2) Two wrongs don't make a right. Killing someone = bad. Who are we to judge who deserves to live and die? I don't even believe in "God" and I think the death penalty is wrong. Why? Not because of some mandate from my "God", but from what I think is moral and just.

No.

a) It's very possible, if you use the death penalty, you'll kill an innocent every once in a while. Up here, we had 2 rape-murder cases (the template for the death penalty) overturned 20 years later because of new evidence. Both of 'em would be dead right now with the death penalty.

b) Let 'em rot. It costs less, and the fellow prisoners will take great joy upon inflicting all kinds of fun stuff upon someone who shoots a 13-year old on his way to school.

Well I am going to be a little different I think they should be killed. When you have a clear cut case like this one where there is no doubt that they have done it. I say off with there heads. Why waste good tax dollars are these guys.
Bullets are cheap now a days.

See, the problem is they can't just shoot 'em, and lethal injection costs MORE than life imprisonment. ;)

If everyone took an eye for an eye we'd all be blind.

How you figure that? I haven't taken anyone's eyes out yet... ;) I agree with True_Moose. Just think of all the *fun* these guys will have in jail with a life sentence!

Yes, kill him... and make it painful.

So you think this is a clear cut case? Maybe so, but where do you draw the line for exectution? What if the snipers had only killed say 5 people instead of 10? What about only one or two people? Still give them the injection? Should we kill anyone who murders someone or just criminals who kill a certain arbitrary amount of victims? If so, what's the magic number? There has to be a line somewhere right? Laws need to be written, or should we all simply put our faith in the judge and jury to do what they feel like?

Well said. Seems like our society likes to live by the Reverse Golden Rule: "Do unto others as they have done to you." Yeah these two snipers should be locked up for good so they don't shoot anyone else, but what good does killing them do? Sets an example for others? Hey if you kill mine, then I'll kill you... Is that message good or bad?
