Mine is now, but when I was growing up, ack! Hamburger Helper, "stuffed peppers" (basically a fried burger she'd stuff into a fried green pepper) and my personal favorite, "BBQ Hotdogs." BBQ Hotdogs was basically her taking hotdogs, splitting them in half lengthways, and baking them in a casserole dish with KETCHUP. Dunno if you've ever tried baked ketchup before, but it doesn't taste the same anymore! Blek! BBQ?? That ain't no BBQ!

Now she cooks all sorts of great stuff, figures, now that I don't live there anymore!

Btw, this isn't just a yucky food memories thread, if your mom was a good cook, post here what she made that you liked too!

Lol...

My parents have been foster parents since I was about four years old, so everything we ate was cooked in mass quantities. Because of the quantities cooked, the taste lacked. It's wasn't unusual to have had ten to fifteen people sitting down for dinner every night.

At my parents house now I have four sisters, four brothers, and two troubled children (whose parents couldn't handle them) plus my mom and my dad. Lack of taste was made up for with an abundance of love. ;)

Now, my grandmother used to make the best chicken and dumplings in the WORLD. Guaranteed! :D :D Everytime I went up to visit, we had lasagne one night and chicken and dumplings another. Ahh..trips down memory lane.

i grew up poor (hell, i still am) and my mom was STILL a good cook. my favorite thing that mom made was tater-tot casserole. she would spread a bunch of ground beef in the bottom of a casserole dish, smooth cream of mushroom soup over the top of it, put about two layers of tater-tots, and cover it with ALOT of shredded cheese, then bake it till it was done. i coule eat about two pounds of it before i got full, lol.

Dang that sounds good! I like all the ingredients, never thought to add them together, I may one day give it a go!

I think so, and all my friends do too, so I guess so. My favorite stuff doesnt really have a name, but its hamburger meat mixed up with corn and ranch style beans, that is GOOD.

I love her fruit salad too. I love any fruit salad!

My mother is a very good and talented cook, but I can't remember one dish that she makes that I really like. Her folks died of heart problems, and even though she's skinny as heck, she's got high cholesterol, so what she makes is very "healthy" food. My prime example of how much it isn't comfort food is when I came home to curried zucchini pancakes one night. They still tease me because I feel the urge at any meal to ask what on earth is in it, but trust me, you have to because she goes for some real unusual stuff (read: weird).

My mom is a terrible cook. She could ruin cereal. The only time she knows when dinner is ready is when the smoke alarm goes off. Whenever she asks how I want something cooked, I say 'let's shoot for recognizable' because that alone seems quite the arduous task for her.

Not that I am any better. I just wish I knew someone who can cook!

well, my mom is not a cook, as in the one that makes it her hobby and knows a lot about it, but when she cooks she cooks with heart and love, and that makes it delicious ;)
