I find that all humans are pemistic by nature, we seek to know when thing will end, the sun, the uninvese and ,of course, life. We judge other badly without knowing them. We se the dark side of situations before the good, ie you run over someone, 'oh crap I killed 'um what have I done (bad side)' instead of 'Well you never know he could of become a mass murdering pythco' (Bad example I know but hopfully you get the ideal.) anyone care to counter this theory?

You're forgetting that when someone is hurt some people are certain that they will come out of it. I guess that's more of faith than optimism. Not everyone judges people without knowing them. I've known some people to say "This kid is going to be cool!" and he turns out to be a complete idiot! It goes both ways.

YOu make good points but still, and I think this was my fault, but those cases are just one within their livfe span. If you add up the good side and bad side of human thought at the end of a persons life, I believe the bad would outway the good. Most major changes, scientific and goverment polics are draw from thought in the dark thinking relams of huamn thought.

Such a blanket claim is unjustified, imo. Some people are pessimistic, yes, but others aren't. Speaking for myself only, I consider pessimism an unhealthy psychologial aberration, which often proves self-fulfilling in the lives of pessimistic people.

I am not a pessimist, and I have little patience for people who are. I think pessimists are missing a crucial realization about life -- that life is usually what we make of it and attitude is 90% of the game.

I was born a pessimist, i'll die a pessimist.

So you never though the worset of someone or a situation in you whole life? Not you did not claim to be an optimissed, as no human can be. EVERYONE think pessimisticly at times, perhpas instead of saying we are all Pessimistic by nature, I should of said Optimisst can't exist but then what just saymantics isn't it?

No one is always entirely consistent throughout their entire lives -- that would be inhuman.

An optimist is not someone who ALWAYS looks on the bright side, no more than a pessimist is someone who ALWAYS sees the worst in any situation.

These words describe tendencies in individuals, not absolutes. So yes, optimists can and do exist, just a much as pessimists.

I think being pesimistic is a protective mechanism that humans use to avoid being shocked or disappointed.

There's no point in being a pessimist - it wouldn't work anyway. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

I tend to be a very optimistic person. Even in the toughest situation I'm looking for the silver lining. Not to say I never get negative, and coming from a family of negative people I understand them. I just can't maintain that view.

Yes bad things happen, but you know what? GOOD things happen too and I'd much rather live a life focused on them. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
