Not wearing any weird hats..
Anyone watching it? I know we have some Kentucky folks here (I'm from there) So I know all about Derby week and today is the race! (Video) You can watch the all day feeds here: http://www.whas11.com//sharedcontent...ops=liveplayer And 84WHAS AM Audio (Louisville's powerhouse AM) http://www.84whas.com Wow, see who won the Oaks?! |
<font color=8fbc8f>It all started April 22nd with "Thunder", it just finally ends this week-end, with a horse race. The 'Gault-House' which is nothing really, rents the "Presidential Suite" for roughly $500 to &1100 nightly for those who would like a waterfront suite. However, last night Mr. (insert your favorite millionaire horse breeder) was able to partake in the accomodations for a mere, $10,750 without room-service.
Another overly priced comodity?. Some of my colleague's paid $1,000 for a spot on the infield to accomodate all 5 of them. That's $200 a piece to stand on some well trimmed Kentucky Blugrass. Sadly, one cannot observe the entire race from the infield. Will tomorrow ever come?</font> |
Hmm, tickets for the infield are $40 right now.. (And yeah, the infield is where all the drunks hang out) :D :D But yeh, the costs are just crazy.
Just like it... |
<font color=8fbc8f>It's Over! Whew-Hoo! What a <s>drunk-fest</s> horse race. It's going to take the rest of the week to clean up that mess. Barbaro 2006! Man what a race! Did you see his strength? From the gate he hit hard, but the jockey, Edgar sensed what he had and held him back maintaing about 4th position until the 1/4 pole. From there on it's nothing but horse tail, 6 & 1/2 lengths of it!
So-Z, are ya saying to wait next year? I mean a grand to 'cater' five folks on the infield, vs $40 for no-catering and walking in ankle deep trash? Ah heck, after the third <s>round</s> race who cares anyway, right?</font> |
I like Derby Day, because it reminds me of the Sydney and Melbourne Spring Carnivals. Pretty good win by Barbaro. Do the US horses race in Europe as well (Ascot, Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe, etc)?
|
Yeh, I was watching Barbaro position himself around the last turn, then just unleashed the power. He had like 9 horse lengths too (or more!)
Great race! (lol, the banned cruising on Broadway) bah... I remember waking up in the morning as a kid (lived there from 72-89) and the morning of the Great Balloon race I would go outside, and see them pass over.. like 40-60 of em. You could hear them whooshing the fire.. Was so cool. I remember Ehrlers Ice Cream balloon.. |
