Just a reminder to use a master password, unless you want anyone who has access to your computer to also have access to your saved passwords.

Simply go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy and click on the VIEW SAVED PASSWORS button. Then choose Show Passwords. Firefox does you the favor of asking if you REALLY want to show the passwords.
<font color=skyblue>Woah!

Who would have guessed that Firefox was not the super-smart browser it claimed to be?!

I like that last part..."Do you REALLY want to show the passwords?"</font>

I have a simple solution, don't save your passwords.

I'm with Luvian... I never save my passwords. Once you do, you give access to your stuff to anyone who uses your computer....

This is, I believe, a feature of the new Firefox 1.5***, and a good one.

To make this NOT show up to anyone happening to stumble by your activated computer, set a firefox master password.

Go to Tools, then Options, then the Privacy Tab. Click on "Set Master Password," then set your master password. Bada bing, bada boom, you can't see your passwords without entering this password.

Incidentally, this is yet another reason to NOT save your passwords on another's machine...you may not have the password required to clear your password.

Internet explorer stores your password in a file somewhere. I doubt that THAT's any more secure.

If I set a master password, do I have to type it in everytime i start firefox/the computer? If that is the case my friends won't be able to use this computer and I want them to be able to.

No, you only need to input your firefox master password when accessing a site that prompts for your password. Meaning, if I were to log out of IW now, I'd be brought back to the log-in screen and the master password prompt would pop up, asking me for my password. If I don't write it in, nothing happens, if I do, the log-in and password fields are filled automatically by Firefox an I can just press enter. It's a very nice feature.

Bjorn, you can choose when you want it to ask the master password. And if you don't enter the password, you can still use firefox. You just have to remember your passwords yourself.

Thanks for the info, I think I'll activate it then. However, the master password seems to make the saving of other passwords pointless.

What do you mean? It's a password used to unlock the automatic completion of remembered password fields. Nothing here obsoletes nothing.
