I've been trying to talk to the golem in the room just past the djinn in Irenicus' prison at the beginning of the game. I know I'm supposed to tell it that I'm it's master and I have the activation stone. Yet when I try to talk to it, I get the message the "the golem appears busy." I can't talk to it. Has anyone ever experienced this? Is there a way past this?

Usually this happens when the golem is busy unlocking the doors, but I've never seen it happen otherwise. If no one else has a suggestion and you don't want to start over then here's something you can try:

Save your game and then have a thief try to pickpocket the golem. Keep reloading and retrying until you're successful. The golem actually has in its possession a key that will unlock necessary doors in the dungeon. You can also use this key. You'll miss out on a few XPs, but at least you can continue on.

If you have XP this might happen to you. Install the Official patch.

You don't need to reload. Just have Imoen keep pickpocketing him till she gets the key. The golem doesn't turn hostile after a failed attempt, so everything's fine.

Thanks, I couldn't remember if the golem went hostile or not, and decided to err on the side of caution :D Actually, I'm amazed that anyone else decided to try it out

This is a known bug with Windows 2k and XP.
Download the patches linked to in Dundee`s Newcomers thread, and it should fix it .
