Has anyone ever used it to buy movie tickets online? How does it work, and have you ever heard of any trouble getting your tickets?

I assume that I get a confirmation number that I take to the box-office and they take the number instead of my money...

The only value I see in this is that I can pre-pay to reserve a ticket before a movie sells out of a specific showtime.

Never done it myself. I've only ever used the service to confirm film times.

That really is the only advantage, since you'll still be standing in line to get the actual tickets. If you just don't want to stand in a line at the box office, you could, if your theaters have them down there, use the 'fast lane' machines, the little computerized things where you just get the ticket and stuff yourself. Lots of people opt to do that at my theater.

Okay, so Fandango saves me from losing a spot so that I do not wait in line for an hour and then learn that I cannot go to the showtime I wanted...but if I stand there and the movie is sold out...I still get my seat because I have a prepaid proof, right?

I am wondering who these fandango people are that have direct access to update a boxoffice on their potential ticket sales...and how many are available.

Sir Goulum 11-13-2005 11:38 PM

Um... hmm. I'm actually not sure how that works. You've prepaid for it, yes, but I don't know if that little piece of paper you print off is the proof, or if it's already in the system. I know at my theater we would have to use the piece of paper, since our system is rather antiquated. In our box office (only been in there like 3 times ), I don't remember seeing any info for those websites (we have movietickets.com over here, same deal).

Edit-OH, I see. I should have looked further. ;) There's only certain theaters that accept the tickets(of which mine isn't one. ), so yes you would have them paid for and yes the seats would be reserved, since it keeps track of how many tickets are sold, and it has the theater capacities.

So Fandango is just an online version of the old "calling the cinema and book a ticket"?

Sir Degrader 11-14-2005 10:46 AM

I've heard it works well, and Stratos, the answer is yes.

At every movie I go to, the first commercial they show when the lights go dim is a fandango ad.

I love the fandango paper bag dolls.

Use the ticket vending machines -- you skip the line. That's Fandango for me.

Until the vending machines become more popular; then there will be a line to those as well.
