Once I exit Chapter Three will I have the opportunity to return to Athkathla later on? I'm thinking about waiting to do the Eyeless quest until after I get the Cloak of Mirrors. I don't want to give any spoilers but I know the cloak isn't available till later in the game. I'm soloing a 9/14 Kensai/Mage and I'm afraid the beholders might be too much to handle right now.

Thanks

I noticed just last night that the Badluran wargear is sold by the bonus merchant in Ribald's store (Promenade). I think the cloak of Balduran might be just what you're looking for - though I have never bought it, it's description says it reflects beholder rays.

The Shield of Baldurian reflects Beholder rays..and to answer you question you will in time return to Athkathla.

Ah. Kensais can't use shields. Guess I'll wait then. Thanks.

Uh.. there are Elder Orbs down there and I don't care what you have Their magic is tough but a fast blade and a good THAC0 is how to really deal with them. or a diversion throw five monsters in before you face them to distract them. then go improved invisible where most spells won't work on invisible characters and hack and slash at them. They aren't very tough in hand to hand...

I hate the Gauths they find you no matter what and do the relentless "cause critical wounds" but thats where the mirroring cloak comes. Fight Fire with Fire I always say - it bounces right back to them and they still Fire at ya after they get hit with there own BW. Now thats Intelligence.

You just stand there as they die. :D

The thing you really must worry about is the Beholder City in the Underdark. That's a place where you can really get some experience if you are able to get thru it by yourself. I went solo thru it with my sorceror and died allot. LoL but still cleaned them out.

the key to winning is to Save ALLOT!! lol and die allot. especially being a mage without spell trigger, spell trap, or spell strike or any of the higher level of spells.

sorry i'm rambling - i just love this game!

Yeah. I've been doing plenty of that. It usually takes me two or three tries on the tougher fights to plan my strategy right. It's getting easier now that I've almost fully equipped her (C. Fury, Zerth Blade, Boots of Speed, 19 Str Girdle, Robes of Vecna). Just now getting the higher lvl spells like Spell Trap too. Now the real fun starts :D

go find a rogue stone and then go to the bridge district... and get the staff of the magi. Thats a challenge - but the staff in the long run will be your most trusted weapon. its The mages life saver thru the entire game. that fight be warned - you fight a lich, beholder, vampire, a tough cleric, and another 18th lvl or above mage.

one of the toughest matches besides the beholder city or the ungrateful git that i had to put together the golden dude. i have ever fought.

but go after the the Staff of the Magi. You only get one shot at it if you have a rogue stone.

i dunno if this is a bug or not but i Quick saved b4 i went in there and i died. (Didn't know i could save again once i was in there)(you can) and when i died and reloaded to go back in there my rogue stone was no longer in my Inventory.

could have been a bug.

If you make it thru it then you will prolly lvl up twice cuz there is some serious EXP in there lol.

I ended up casting Gate from a Scroll to summon a pit fiend to distract them while i took out the lich. He was a pain in the butt to kill. But when you have DayStar make all the difference.

I had to go get an NPC to help me out with that little extravaganza... I found it impossible to solo in there especially being a lvl 12 Sorceror. Now im a lvl 32 Sorceror and can take out anything... but I still DIE allot its one of the perks in the game - keep telling myself that I'm not the king of the hill and unbeatable cuz there is always some one else out there that is better and faster at castng then me. Perth the crazy mage in brynnlaw kicks my ass allot. LoL no matter what lvl i am.

well the beholder doesn't cast protection spell on himself unless its an elder orb and you give it time. Its not like a Lich. It is more of a destructive/offensive form of monster. I strongly suggest not wasting the slot for the Nishruu against beholders and instead... use Distintegrate the saving throws for the beholders (what i have noticed) suck vs. death magics.

Heh funny you should mention that. Got Daystar and killed me my first lich this afternoon. Ran in invis and non-detectable, cast Knock, grabbed it, ran out, id'd, equipped, spelled up, ran back in, cast Greater Malison, followed by the sunray = one crispy ol' lich.
