I do not know whether it should be here or not, so if Moderators wish to move this topic i will understand.

Our battallion (OZ 77) will be used in the evacuation for the following things:

1. Terrorrist butt kicking
2. Evacuating settlers.

These things exclude each other, but afaik it is the possibility n2 that will come to pass rather than n1.

The soldiers in my company (Malkut Hermon-Kingdom of Hermon) are not unified in their thoughts regarding the evacuation. Some desided that they will not do it even if they will be court marshalled (sp?). Others say that they will do it. Roughly every six soldier will go to jail because he will refuse to submit to the evacuation orders.

I will evacuate the settelments if I must, but i will do so with heavy heart. Orders are orders, but i do not see the palestinians keeping their side of the deal.

Well, I want to wish you good luck firstly, hope things don't turn ugly whilst you're down there.

Secondly, I read in the news yesterday that the government had started interning a couple of Jewish extremists in preparation for this - hopefully this should prevent the worst of violence if it continues.

Thirdly, I share an element of your misgivings. I guess there has to be some 'give' to test the Palestinian extremists' commitment to peace. Personally I think that Israel will emerge far stronger from this withdrawal; not only is the Gaza strip not too great to defend from a military point of view, but it allows consolidation of settlements in the West Bank. Furthermore, if violence continues after the withdrawal than Israel will be in a much stronger position to take action against militants having made such an obvious conciliatory gesture.

Be safe, and keep an eye on your six!

Plus, there's the fact that it was never your land except by conquest and it's the right thing to do -- so kudos to you and your countrymen for stepping up to do something right. Once you have made such a concilliatory move, you will at least be vindicated if and when the Palestinians renig on the deal.

Ouch, TL...I'd have used some euphemisms there...though I certainly don't always agree with Isreali policies...

Seems like good news, though. Hopefully, it can work toward promoting some stability "over there," as everyone I knows calls it.

Be safe, Black Baron!

'Euphemism' is a euphemism for lie.

Oh, and keep safe. ;)
