I"m having yet another problem with this POS computer of mine> The keyboard is defaulting to ALL CAPS again and I can"t access some of the lower case symbols on certain keys (such as the period which is why my sentences end with this >)> When I try to click on an icon on the desktop< the mouse will highlight ALL the icons between the one I choose and the top of the screen> And the mouse pointer doesn"t seem to work right when I"m on the internet> I"ve done two System Restores but the problems haven"t been fixed>

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated>

What type of Keyboard and mouse do you have. Any chance they are wireless ?

That sounds like your Shift key is stuck, or being held down, as it would explain all of your symptoms, I imagine you have used Caps lock to stop it from typing in capitals?

Edit: Actually, looking at what Hivetyrant has said, it makes sense. Sounds like you definately have a stuck shift key.

If they are not noticably stuck down, take the shift keys off and give them a good blow out.
You would be amazed at what can somehow get stuck under keys...

I think Windows has some built-in shif-key-locking thing, but if you've done a system reinstall, that doesn't seem probable. I suggest you blame your keyboard.

Hmmm, you could try looking at you "sticky keys" options as well, i have never used them, but if my previous answer isnt the answer, then have a go at disabling them.

OK, apparantly the keyboard is just skragged. I put a new keyboard on the machine and - voila' - it works.

It's hard to believe so much CRAP can be caused by a messed up key. Oh well, at least it only costs $10 to fix that problem (if I can't get the key unstuck).
