I took advantage of our employee discount day again on Saturday and picked up the Logitech webcam twin-pack (and 2 V-tech 2.4GHz phones for $10 each )

I don't use any type of messenger programs now, as I'm not overly fond of them. Now, in order to use the webcam I gotta go with MSN or Yahoo or whatever my trusted friends at Ironworks recommend!

(It's 1:20am and I can't sleep due to this darn cold. It's not really bad, but I just can't sleep)

MSN is used best for webcam and Yahoo is used best for voicechat. Go the other way around, and it doesn't work very well, in my experience anyway.

I have friends with webcams that use Yahoo. Depending on the age of the cam is the quality you'll get. However, why can't you try both Yahoo and MSN?

Well, when i'm on MSN, i'm usually on webcam with someone, but that's only becuase i do things and forget i'm on camera, like start to sing (can't hear it, but it looks darn funny) so it makes people laugh. The yahoo messenger isn't great for webcam, so i'd stick to MSN. But, in my experiances, MSN sometimes doesn't pick up the camera properly and doesn't work...Doesn't happen to anyone else though, so i'd say go with MSN.

Are those the only choices? I was hoping there would be something Firefox and Thunderbird out there.

aMSN is a nice open-source alternative, but last time I tried it there still wasn't webcam support. I guess its quite complicated to add

I don't believe they make messenger services, though I could be wrong. (But yeah, pretty much your only choices)

Gaim also is an open source alternative. But some time ago I heard that webcam support wasn't really good yet but thet for some it worked. Might be worth checking out.

I'll use this thread to ask for webcam help of my own. I've tried plugging it in over and over, different USB ports, and it still won't pick it up...Anyone knoww what to do?
