its fairly easy to insert a picture into a word document. now the problem i have is that i have a picture in word document i want to make into picture format. i tried using paint but its not very good since it degraded the quality of the picture. any other free useful picture programs out there? i dont have any photoshop or something similar in my computer sadly nor do i have the program installer.

Check out Attalus' "Reducing the size of scanned images" thread. A couple of freeware image editors are mentioned in there... with links!

Now, what are you trying to do with the picture? Save it forever? Copy into another office document? Use it as evidence in a court of law? Or something else?

Ask your friend for the original image. If this is not possible and you want that picture from the word document, and you have your image editor than take a screen shot with the Print Scrn button on your keyboard and crop it. Nothing worse than taking pictures from word and using them as images. Images from word are poor quality to begin with, they look fine sitting in the document but once you take them out its like Pet Semetary all over again.
