Heya.
Got a very annoying problem. My browser, or something else, has decided it doesn't like .mp3's. Whenever I download one directly from the net, they're suddenly reformatted to .mpga when they reach my PC. What is going on?? Running on XP, if that has any significance...
Thanks for any help.

Which browser are you running then?

Seraph 02-02-2005 03:44 PM

Are you sure the files you're downloading are actually mp3 files?

Sir Degrader 02-02-2005 04:26 PM

Wow, SE, haven't seen you here in a while, welcome back (assuming you left). Anyway, what browswer are you using? Where are you DLing these mp3s from?

RoSs_bg2_rox 02-02-2005 04:40 PM

As the others said. What browser is this? Where are you getting them from / what are they? What mediaplayer are you using? and are you sure they aren't .wma?

Heh, thanks, Degrader. I still browse these forums every day, but rarely post. Dunno why.

Anyway, running from the latest IE (can't remember what it's called...), and using both WMP, WinAmp and Real. And yes, I'm sure they're .mp3's. Found the file from the source (as in, View -> Source)...

Do you have the hide known file extension turned off? That could be a problem. And on the browser it wouldn't hurt for security and maybe this problem to try another like firefox.

Sir Exxon 02-03-2005 11:45 AM

Heh, didn't even think of trying to download it in Firefox. Still shows as .mpga, though... Was of .mp3 size, though. It is that with IE as well, but the problem is that I can't do anything else than playing the damnable files...

Hmm, hide known file extension? Where would I go to change that? Looked through Tools -> Internet Options, and nothing there. Also, security is top. Norton Internet Security plus the XP firewall, and all security updates from Microsoft...

No it's in folder options. It might be that there's something wrong there. On the other hand you can also use save as and then save as .mp3 (put off the hide known file extensions before doing this though) . Thing you can watch as well is as what it's saved. In the save as link you can see the type under the name as well and change it.
