I suspect it is. For awhile now, it's suffered from "creeping read" problems. The drive has had trouble picking up a cd, but eventually it would latch on and the game would come up.
Today, nada (it was working yesterday). No cd I've tried has worked. It goes around briefly, then the drive stops and the green light blinks. I can eject with no problems. There are no error messages. This is, by the way, a regular CDROM drive, not a CD-R or CD-RW. Time for a new one?
Nightowl2
|
Hi Nightowl2! My husband, Nachtrafe, says it sounds like the laser is bad so you probably do need a new cd drive.

You could always pop open the case and check for a loose IDE cable before opting to buy a new one.
Make sure you pull the cable fully out, then push it back in firmly. If that doesn't work you can pick up a new one very cheaply anyway. A simple screwdriver job is all it will take to 'install'. |
Well, duh if you hosed it, then it's not gonna work is it? Water can wreck havoc in electronics.

At today's prices for CD-ROMs, if reattaching the cables like Dace suggested doesn't work, get a new one. In fact, depending on what's in your box, I'd get a CD-RW for just about the same price...
Unfortunately, I have no other ideas for you. |
wow, funny thing this, my cd drives been giving me the same problem , was gonna put it up, but saw you did it first

Guess I'll order a new one. Ho hum.
Thanks for the responses, all. Even you, Vaskez, though your reply was strictly from Hungary ;)
Nightowl2
|
