Does anyone know any tricks for killing mages? Tolgerias is really getting on my nerves. He has so much magical protection.

Thanks!

If he has any protection against spells, use Pierce magic first; follow it with a Breach Magic which will remove all of his other combat defenses. I know it can cause fatigue on your group, but haste also helps out alot. Summon creatures like the fire elemental and arial servant. If your main character has it and is primarily melee attack have him use his DUHM (Draw Upon Holy Might) skill. if not then just haste and whack preceded by the above spells.

I'd be able to give better tips if I knew who was in your party and their levels. Then I would have a fair idea of what you have to work with.

You should take out his little friend first as they seem rather fond of casting death fog, a more powerful variant of cloudkill.

In ToB you'll see that mages are easy play and the power of a true sorcerer, usually ANY mage can be eradicated by this combination spellstrike/flamearrows/horrid wiltings ! But in shadows of Amn you can easy whack the crap outta Tolgeris with Casomyr, it'll probably whack its way outta the protections, yes breach and pierce magic can be used but if you havent got them better stay outta of his LOS until his protections run out, when they do you'll hear the sound trigger :D Hope that helps ;)

The Cloak of Mirroring is only obtainable towards the end of Chapter 4. It will be a safe assumption that gamer1 is still pre-Chapter 4.

You just get Keldorn cast Dispell on the mage (if none, then try to do it with priests/mages, although Keldorn's dispell is cast much faster) and charge melee with pretty good THAC0 fighter. That will remove stoneskin etc from the mage, and fighter will disrupt all futher spellcasting. At that level no mage should have contingency on half-killed with another stoneskin, so no trouble outta them. And if they DO have it, then dispell it again!!

Also, do not forget casting imp. invis on the fighter that will charge, it makes the mage suck with direct-damaging spells ;)

By the way, this works even on liches guarding body parts if Kangaxx...

If you have it, use insect plague. It *realy* helps against mages

Try using Backstab on the mage, it might kill him instantly. Also, if u r a Monk use Quivering PAlm and then go Stealth and try ur luck at killing the mage, if u r lucky the mage should die on the first hit.

Another good tip for fighting mages who are on there own is using the summon spell nishruu. Magic actually heals this creature so summon one and watch the mage waste all his spells on it. Then have your tanks mop up. The one problem with this tactic is that sometimes the mage casts death spell which kills all summons. If this is the case summon an expendable creature like a spider so he wastes his death spells on it then summon a nishruu.

Dundee Slaytern 08-27-2002 08:44 AM

Or you can summon 2 Nishruus, and throw in a Hakeashar( higher level Nishruu) for fun. Just send them in one, by one. Tolgerias has one Death Spell, while his partner has another one. Skeleton Warriors are nice to send in one by one too... ...

Note that they like to summon a lot of summons, so use Death Spell as well. ;)
