Came out of nowhere to get silver in the 4/400 relay. Our anchor didn't even get through the first round of the individuals, yet came from behind to go from fifth to second. First Aussie track relay medal since 1956. Australia were sixth in the 4/100 final, first time in a sprint final since 56 as well.
Then Britain go ahead and beat the USA. They hadn't won that event since 1912. How amazing is that? |
Yay for us!!!
|
Especially yay - wasn't that the same event where we came 5th in the heat (3 qualify automatically) and qualified in last place by being a barely fast enough time amongst the other competitors that were not in the "automatics".

I was stunned ... all 4 must have exacuted their best change technique and run performance for this to happen. I hope amidst Australias best ever performance at the games regarding gold medals that this event never gets forgotten.

I know, I couldn't believe it. It's not like we made any changes - I was really chuffed with the boys for making it into (or rather, scraping into ;) ) the final, but I assumed that was pretty much the fastest they could go... amazing what changing the order and everyone running their absolute best can do! Although it has to be said that apart from a few excellent performers, the track and field team seemed to be embracing mediocrity in a big way. Hopefully they'll take the few great results we had and get motivated! |
The boggest boost I think is Wariner coming out and saying "race doesn't matter, it's ability that counts", and speaking about the number of times he's heard "white men can't run".

Yay!! Australia finish second!!! Get used to it!!! :D

Hello Donut... manage to count pommy gold medals on one hand did we? ;)
