Scary stuff. Luckily, I just delete everything unless it is personal.

Do you also clean out the 'deleted ' folder? And do you also clean out internet temp and the cookies too?

...and run Spybot: Search & Destroy on a weekly basis?

I got 9 out of 10 on the phishing test. But they miss two steps that I follow:

1. Am I expecting an email from them?

2. What do the message header data records show? If they don't match what I expect, I toss it out.

Nasty, though. It's amazing what people will believe...

I got 9 out of 10 as well.

One of the Paypal ones I though was a fraud really was legitimate.

I missed the number 6, Earthlink. I still don't see why it's a fraud. All it does is link to www.earthlink.net

Is the real website earthlink.com? I never visited it. I guess I would know if I was one of their client.

Luvian, though I *am* an Earthlink customer I'm still not completely sure, but I *do* believe the e-mail addys and webspace they provide customers is .net while the main site is .com.

it is fraud because it gives you the link to your account. as int he legit paypal ones it says only log in through paypal.com, i suspect earthlink is the same. i got 10/10

Lady Sedai 07-29-2004 08:19 AM

For the record, I got 9 out of 10.

I thought the first one may have been a fraud.

My rule of thumb is this: If it asks you to click a link in the email itself, it's probably a phish. If it tells you to go to the site and log on to your account and make changes, chances are it's legit.

I delete everything (even from Earthlink) that is not known to me and most emails with attachments unless I get a valid email from the party previously telling me that I will be receiving an email with an attachment.

And even from those I *know*, I check the subject header first.

Hiram runs the Spybot and other programs regularly and keeps the system clean and defragged.

I think we do well.
