Over the past two days it happened off and on, sometimes when i'm browsing the internet, sometimes when i'm playing a game.

I've done the works, run a viruscheck, searched for trojans, etc.... nothing out of the ordinary came up. Anyone know what can be the cause of this ?

Sounds like that virus thing that came upon a month ago or something. Updated the virusscanner?

Did you add new hardware or changed something to the setup and what's your windows version and specs?

Windows XP home edition, and no, i didn't add any new hardware lately. It started happening two days ago, out of the blue, it never happened before.

I've also had this problem recently. While it could be a sign of the Sasser virus, it could also be a bad motherboard.

I've had that problem from a bad power supply. But have you gone to trendmicro.com for an on-line scan? That should eliminate any virus possibilities...

If you're using a power strip or bckup battery system, these may be a cause. I just recently replaced my power strip 'cause of that.

Right click the "My Computer" icon and select properties.

On the "Advanced" tab choose the start up and recovery settings and uncheck the "Automatically Restart" box.

Next time it encounters a critical error it won't reboot, it will flash to a blue screen that will give you a stop error at the top. Write down the entire error code, go over to the MS Knowledge Base and plug the error code into their search engine. That will tell you why it's doing it.

If that doesn't work, go make yourself some blue eggs, grab a beer and relax. :D

I had a similar problem, specially when playing games or watching movie files, the computer would restart.
the Graphics drivers (Nvidia) had been corrupted and the problem went away when I installed new ones...
