I have broadband internet connection at home. Through my airport card. Through someone elses connection. No password needed. Plenty of signal.

We have free wireless in Union Square. And in Central Park. Plenty of people take their wireless laptops and sit around the mac store in Soho. Free internet.

It's the way of the future for a city like New York. Soon we may have the day when we'd say to someone "You pay for internet connection? Why?"

actually.. it could be that those free wireless internet is loadeed with spyware stuff.. i would be careful if i were you having a firewall and everything. someone posted earlier about getting infected with spyware on a wireless area. still its still nice to have free wireless internet. i mean.. who wouldnt? :D

Yes free is good. :D But good point about the spyware.

I'd be careful with all wireless connections. These things are so easy to abuse.

Mine's not free but I've had someone else on the network once (might have been using the internet or something) and I had an opportunity to get on someone else's network as well. Most of the time it takes just changing one variable to get into a wireless network, and so in the computers connected.
