Hey, does anyone here know anything about the banning of DVD copying and shrinking programs?
Not that I burn Movies or anything, but I find the topic interesting and want to know what is banned, I heard that DVD x copy, DVD Shrink and DVDecrypter were banned but I still dont see how making these programs illegal is going to stop people, I recently got my hands on a DVD burner and apart from using it to make huge backups of stuff and using it as a RAM drive, I like the idea of being able to make backups of my DVD's, because as we all know, they can get scratched very easily and if we can make 1 backup of a game, then why not a movie? Please note that I am not trying to promote piracy, I would just like to hear other peoples opinions on the subject. |
I see nothing wrong with it, provided it's only used as a copy. Distributing or selling a burned movie would be wrong, but making a copy of an easily scratched or damaged $20-$30 CD is perfectly fine in my eyes.

Thats what I mean, But I suppose I can see their side aswell, although I dont think that Fox Studios is going to go broke because the people that do Have the ability to burn DVD's, will and might sell them for half the price.
By the way, does anybody know the fine for burnig DVD's and selling them? |
Just out of interest, how many people here have DVD burners?

I have a DVD burner, but Ive only used it to burn regular CD-Rs, as the DVD-Rs are so damn expensive...I really bought it because Im gonna do a complete format for my computer, and I dont wanna lose all my stuff...
I havent actually heard of this ban thing, but I doubt itll have much effect all in all...games and music are both still being heavily pirated, and the no matter what the goverment does, its always countered by all sorts of hackers and such... |
