currently I have 2 jobs (which still doesn't seem to be enough for my mother, but I won't even attempt to understand her logic), but my friend just got her 3rd! I work 1 full-time and 1 part-time to make rent and food and enable me to save SOME money, though granted not a lot. but my friend has 1 full-time and 2 part-times. I warned her yesterday that she's going to go insane in about a month's time, but she figures she needs them all.

we're both full-time university students, hence the need for money. but I just thought it crazy for her to work 3 jobs, then I got to thinking "well somebody else musta been in the same position". so how many jobs have you guys had at a single time?

Vaskez 05-26-2004 06:16 PM

You're kidding right? You're full time students and working 2 or 3 jobs? That's insane! You're not supposed to work at all, you're supposed to take out a loan and pay for it when you're working full time! You're both gonna fail if you keep this up. Unless you do REALLY EASY courses or don't sleep :D

The most jobs I've had at once is err.. 1 - I'm sane, you see

actually, no, I have only worked one job at a time, mostly due to the hours I was required to work, and try and take care of the kids, but my husband has 2 jobs now, and we are still not making ends meet

And they say that when you do make the ends meet, somebody moves the ends...

Now before anyone gets offended, this is a general rant and not aimed at anyone here...

What I really hate is when people complain how they can't make ends meet and then you look at what they spend their money on and they buy DVDs and go out drinking a lot. Students always complain that they're broke but they all spend like £40 on alcohol every time they go out...hmmm I wonder why they're broke?

Most I had were 2, took a part time job in a pub/disco/shithole as a bartender/tablecleaner/slave to make ends meet, quit after I had to clean up vomit from a urinal... tunafish smells terrible after it has been half digested and urinated on...

Sorry, just had to share...

[edit to answer Vaskez Rant] I was working for minimum vage and even if I saved money a lot, after paying rent I usually had none left even for food around the 20th of the month... when you have to live on air and water for ten days... you are not making ends meet...

not to sound rude, but we are living on 2 minimum wage incomes, and have 3 kids to take care of, rent to pay, gas, water, electric, food, then the basic things we need, and if we are lucky, we will have enouh to buy smokes, and then a movie once in awhile, that is not counting the phones, the cable, and paying people back money we owe them, and once a month, we try to buy a new movie for the kids, so tell me, is there reason to complain? just needed to add that one, so yeah, we could use a higher paying job, or 3 jobs, and why am I not working you say? other than the kids, I can not hold a job right now, as bad as I want one, can not get hired due to my deafness

In the past, people have turned you down because of deafness. That does not mean you cannot get a job, or that no one will offer you one in the future. It just means you havn't found your niche yet. Keep trying, don't be disheartened.

Personally, if things continue in the U.S. of A holes as they have been....I wouldn't stop to say that I smell a bit of the 30's roaming back for a visit. Hoover sandwich anyone?

Hmmm, isn't there a welfare system in your country? According to my handbook of the world iceland has a GNP per capita of around $23,000. Surely there should be no reason for anyone to go without food in such a country....??

Either you managed to avoid getting welfare and your parents didn't give you any money or you're exaggerating ;)

Most I've held was three... the most I've held for an extended period of time is two.

The secret to managing your finances when there's more "month" than "money" is to pre-spend all your money before you get it. If you do that, then you know if you have enough left over to rent a movie this month, or whether you can splurge on something exotic like macaroni and cheese ;) <== intended sarcasm smiley <==

It is easier to manage when you don't have kids, but it doesn't mean you can't manage it with kids. It just makes it hurt more to say no.
