And did I not hear that System Restore was better left off to speed up performance?

Also, not to have Auto-Update enabled?

yes, it is better to not enable the updates, I do mine maually anyway, as for the restore, it is really a matter of what you prefer, it might make it run better, but if it hangs up, there is no way to take it back to the previous settings, which then means you would probably wind up like me, and not be able to load your OS because there was a malfunction in there somewhere, but that is a risk you have to decide on, it does speed up the system a little, but it mostly depends on your processor speed and hard drive size anyway.I know this because I had disabled mine, and now I can not fix it

If you're running decent hardware, the performance gains from disabling auto-update and system restore won't be noticeable.

Disabling auto-update is no big deal, just remember to check Windows Update on a regular basis.

System Restore is a potential lifesaver. Always make a restore point before doing any kind of driver update or system changes. That way if the changes you've made hose your system, it's an easy fix to return it back. My advice: leave it on.
