What are 'surf' and 'turf' when used in conjunction? Is it food related?

Steak and seafood on the same plate.

Sometimes called "Beef n Reef" as well

Usually I've seen it as steak and lobster, and not just any kind of seafood. I've not heard Beef 'n' Reef before -- guess I've gotta find some new restaurants in better parts of the world

Used to be quite popular in OZ in the early eigthies. Generally it was a fillet steak and half a lobster. Then it started to be changed to suit the particular Chefs styles. A lot of restaurants ended up turning the seafood part of it into a sauce to go with a steak.

My own opinion, but forget the cornflour in this recipe. You wouldn't need it, and any self-respecting Chef wouldn't use it.

Anyway, Fillet Steak and Lobster needs nothing else but a nice green salad with it. You simply can't improve on perfection! :D

Thanks for the replies but as a veggie it wouldn't be suitable, lol

This guy on the tv, american, said something about it but he was eating so much food i couldn't tell what he was refering too.

Come now, there's still got to be a way!

Hmmmm... Vegetarian Surf 'n' Turf... What about a plate of grass and seaweed? :D

Okay, that's not meant to be as smart-alecky as it sounds. But I think there's probably a place for that on someone's menu...

How about tofu steak and...well wait a minute, I know a few vegetarians who eat fish. I don't get these people

Hehehe... surf 'n turf... first time I mentioned it to my niece, she thought it was a surfing accident I had once in California. The innocence of being 5.

Kakero 04-16-2004 02:55 AM

I've heard of Bed n Breakfast before.

Ironbar 04-16-2004 05:39 AM

Veggie surf and turf would probably be water and fresh air, the 'usual' vegetarian option lol!
