Personally, I think the cultists are wierder. Underground Cities, Gov't Cover-ups, Aliens, and Area 51 are all much more believeable then the coming of a new god unless you give a guy wearing only a "The End is Near" sign some money.

::nods:: I agree. Conspiracy theories mostly have at least a grain of believability... but I'd be hard-pressed to find a cult that said anything at all I could accept as 'truth'

Harkoliar 03-20-2004 09:26 PM

cultist are fanatical and dangerous, at least conspiracy theories are harmless to a certain degree

TheCrimsomBlade 03-20-2004 09:46 PM

They all should be wearing those white jackets that have the extra long arms and buckle in the back. Then live out the rest of their lives in padded rooms.

Cultists are looking at the one way to salvation. Conspiracy theorists are looking for every angle to prove or disprove their particular belief. Therefore, I believe that conspiracy theorists are less likely to become satisfied with what they have and to stop their pursuits.

I'd have to say based on danger and fanaticism that cultists are among the crazier. Then again it also depends on the particular cult in question as far as being crazier that conspiracy theories.

A cult is a huge group of people brainwashed by one person into believing what they do or what he wants them too. Sort of like a mini-dictatorship without the tortures and executions.

An Example of a cultist would be David Karesh.

Is Cult the same as Sect? Over here there's some pretty 'radical' sect going around.

So is the Catholic Church a cult? Or how about the Mormons? Jehovahs witnesses? Government-funded news agencies?
