Email viruses spoof the email header. The address it seems to be coming from is very likely not the actual source. Also, viruses distribute themselves, so if someone is sending you a virus its more likely they don't know about it rather than they are deliberately distributing viruses.

Don't open emails from anyone (even friends) if you don't trust their subject. I do it always, most of the time it's false alarm, though all those times it was stuff I didn't want anyway. I didn't get it myself but I hear it's very common.

Yep i know Andrewas anyway i send them back and they are deleted from my hd in the same run so i bite back a bit anyway!!

I always got the Honor Virus. It said,
"This is the honor virus. Please delete all files on your computer and forward this message to 20 friends.
Thank you."

But, yeah. And there's also an insidious AIM Profile Virus that hijacks (Can I say hijack?) your profile, sets up a link that says something along the lines of, "Duuuude check out this site", and leads you to the site which encourages you to download it. Be wary of that one.
Phillip is right as well... though what if you were to miss out on a chain letter started by Hungarian nuns in the year zero?! That somehow managed to show up online, like magic? You'd miss out on the opportunity to see that...
... and tell off whomever had the nerve to waste your time with it.

I constantly get that one that reboots my computer. It says something along the lines of: "This system is shutting down, initiated by NT Authority" with a one-minute countdown, before the thing restarts on me. I get it regularly, despite downloading all the Microsoft XP Security Updates and running Norton Antivirus, Adaware, and Spybot... it's so annoying.

When will people ever learn? Don't use Micro$haft software (like Outlook) to access email - it's a prime vector for virii.

Megabot 02-01-2004 12:30 AM

So what the hell shall we use then Pegasus Mail? who dont work wery good here and other mail thingys cost $$$ so i stick with Outlook and kill all the stupid virus mails wery easy!

Illumina Drathiran'ar 02-01-2004 02:32 AM

Get yourself a Hotmail account.
Or Yahoo.
Lycos, even.

Megabot 02-01-2004 02:43 AM

I have Hotmail and it dont work that good but better than my normale mail acount anyway so i might trie Lycos too to se if it helps!
