Does anyone here knows a way that can completely remove windows messenger and prevents it from logging in everytime i start win xp(i got boardband internet)?

I've tried uninstalling it in the "add or remove windows components" but that doesn't seem to work, and going into the windows messenger option disabling "Run this program when windows starts" doesn't help either.

I will greatly appreciate it if anyone can offer me any help on this. THaNk YoU!!!

Is this Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger you are talking about?

They are different progs and have different methods of being disabled.

Either way, just go to the preferances (or options) and make sure its not set to open at startup, it's not your defoult messege service, etc... Hope this helps.

It's windows messenger i'm talking about, and setting it not to run at startup doesn't work, it just logs you in automatically without letting you know you're logged in.

Follow the instructions in this tweak page from TweakXP

I tried and it works. My windows XP is no longer plague by the stupid Messanger.

I didnt read the tweak, but what I did was open msconfig and remove it from startup.

Then, I did a search for (and if the is not correct hit control alt delete to get the task manager up to get the correct letters off the Processes Tab) msmsgs.exe and delete everything it finds in the search,

Note, you cant have it running or it wont let you delete the things it finds.

Easiest way I know is to go to Control Panel, Administrative Options, Services, and disable the Messenger service. That removes it entirely.

Those are my Win2k links to get to it. XP should be similar.

Actually there is a download through the microsoft Auto Update service that may just do it for you.

I can't remember what it was called as I just instaled it but it seems that it may allow you to uninstal certain windows components including MSN and IE.

In the Microsoft Windows Update Page it's basic description is that it adds another help option along with a Set Program Access And Defaults Option on the right tab of the start menu. I haven't tried unintstaling Messenger as I use it but it may just do the trick.

I also noticed that after instaling it, the whole add remove programs window changes completely.
