Just heard on the radio that a guy can be arrested in Holland for whistling at a girl. I thought Holland was ultra liberal... anything goes.

Arrested, maybe, but certainly not thrown in jail or anything. Depends on the situation I guess, but this would be inconsistent, yeah. Although cops tend to be kinda strange here: if you beat someone up, they might let you go with a warning, but if you drive without a helmet or spit on the ground, they nearly clubber your ass.... depends on what kinda cop you face and what his/her mood is.

Nah, that's just in Rotterdam; moronic xenophobia and stereotyping have driven them to making silly new rules of increasing weirdness ever since Leefbaar Rotterdam entered the picture a few years ago. The story is true, but don't pay too much attention to it.

It is just a question. I was under the impression that one could get blasted on drugs and sex and practically anything without any control.

Did you ever heard the story about a supermarket being robbed, and two of the employees chase the guy who did it, catch him, give him a rough shaking and get sued themselves for 'assault'? Now THAT'S outrageous!

It gets different though when the employees beat a suspect of theft to death. ;)

And if that whistle thing was true, i'd be serving a lifesentence by now. :D

...Or the story about a supermarket being robbed, and two of the employees chase the woman who did it, catch her, give her a shaking that was a little bit too rough and she ends up dead?
And people wonder why I agreed with the case against those supermarket employees in the situation Link discribed. Excessive violence is still excessive violence, regardless of the causes or consequences, and in both cases the responses of the supermarket employees were way past the point of "reasonable force".
It's too complicated, time robbing and either way rather useless to go into details right now, but I recall an earlier discussion on this subject here on Ironworks; I'll try to look it up.

edit: Can't find it... Oh well.
