How can I save my "favorites" links from IE on my work computer to disk and transfer them to my home computer? It would be very helpful since I have several dozen.

copy your favorites folder (C:\Documents and Settings\(User Name)\Favorites\
to a disk and take it home. Emailing them can be a pain as many virus checking programs will delete links. If you place them in a password protected zip file they should make it through email unscathed.

File Menu->Import and Export...

Follow the wizard to export your favourites. Just export to an html file then send that home and then use the same procedure to import the bookmarks.

I copy mine from C:\WINDOWS\Favorites
