I thought it'd be cool if we had a topic listing all our favourite quotes or words of wisdom. I'm talking about stuff that you actually take seriously, like rules you live by or things that are important to you or you find clever. Don't mind funny ones being posted either, as long as you say which ones you like as a joke and which ones are ones you live by etc.

If you post some then think of some more, just edit your original post so we can get everyone's quotes in one post each.

One I like and think is very true: "That which does not kill me, only makes me stronger". I dunno who said it first but I heard it in a 2pac song among other places :D
I also live by "God helps those who help themselves" which I interpret as, yeah it's good to have faith but you can't just sit on your ass and expect things to happen.

Heh maybe after a while we can vote on the best ones and then have an IW top words of wisdom list or something :D then everyone will be really wise and world peace and prosperity will follow...or something :D

"Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none" - William S.
"A chain is only as strong as the weakest link" - Tsun Zu?
"When going through hell, keep going" - Churchill.
Plus, everything from Oscar Wilde ;)

However I happen to think it was one of the worst things he ever said. ;)

And on the topic itself, I'm in awe of nearly everything Nietzsche wrote, bar his comments on women which were petty and useless, and some of his writings on religion.

In the BBS days, I used this as a tagline:

"When governments fear the people there is liberty. When the people fear the government there is tyranny." - Thomas Jefferson

Another my dad a lot was:

"The only man who makes no mistake is the man who does nothing."
- Theodore Roosevelt"

It was Nietsche's Übermensch I believe.

Mine is something like: If you don't want something to happen to you, don't do it to someone else. It's a dutch proverb and it is for the morally correct.

There's only one phrase that I really live by - "everything will turn out okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end" - it helps keep me going when times are rough, and I've found it to be so true in general.

I like this quote "a lost battle is a battle one thinks one has lost". Jean Paul Sartre I believe. To me it's very accurate. Other than that I also like this quote by Paul Valery "Tout ce qui est simple est faux, et tout
ce qui est compliqué est inutilisable".

Hmm, for me, probably something like "Don't think about mistakes of the past and focus on the present and the future."....ya my wording sucked on that, but basically if I did some stupid shite a few years back or even a few days back theres no use in worrying about it now cause it'll only bring me down.

Plus, when the time is right, my sig guides my life ;)

if im thinking of the same philospher as you, this Nietzsche fella has a whole lot more wrong with him than just that quote and comments on women.
In fact, many of his viewpoints were used by germany during WWII as justifications of their war/way of life.

But anyhow...
lets see, quote to live by:
"The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing."
