Well I did a few months ago buy a DVD drive for my system and have bought a few DVD's for it. I wanted to back up a select few of these DVD's in case sommat ever happend (LOTR's 1 & 2, 28 Days Later).

I've already backed up both copies of my LOTR's movies but these were using a program the ripped them to Divx format. While the format is good it is certainly not flawless and can't handle alot of high special effects. Is there any way to make backups with a better quality preferably true DVD quality (I think this is called VOB)? I certainly have the space on my HD and only want to backup a select few like I mentioned. Any help is much appreciated.

If I am not mistaken, there is something called DeSS. Anyway, since it is quite illegal to use it, I doubt that you could find it easily.

The program Smart Ripper copies the entire movie onto the HDD in VOB format. I use it fairly often if I haven’t watched a movie but I have to return it. Provided you have enough HDD space to hold it 'cause it’s about 2-5 gig a movie.
Also, I wouldn't mind knowing what program you are using to encode since I have never been able to find an easy to use encoding program myself.

Click here to download various DVD/CD backup software. I haven't try any of them so please do not ask me which one is better.
